I. General instructions

An article to be published (between 18,000 and 36,000 characters with gaps altogether) should only be sent as the .rtf text file format along with the .pdf version. The text should also contain a title (possibly with a subtitle; when the text and title are not in English, they should be provided in this language as well), abstract in English [at least 1,000 characters with gaps, plus the name(s) of an author(s), and the title of an article], and key words in English (between 5 and 10 words). Article manuscripts should be in the Palatino Linotype font type (Unicode font), size 12, spacing 1.5, and A4 paper size with margins of 2.5 cm.

II. Two versions of an article manuscript

Two version of an article manuscript should be sent by the author(s). One version is for editors and the other one for reviewers. In the version for editors there should be a name of the author(s) under the title (and subtitle) of an article manuscript. Then the contact information (author’s affiliation) in English ought to be added after the references. The aforementioned contact information includes the author’s first name and surname, degree(s), institutional affiliation and e-mail address. We also suggest to the author(s) that they might provide us with the following persistent digital identifiers of researchers: ORCID ID, WOS Researcher ID and SCOPUS Author ID. The version of an article manuscript for reviewers should not contain the author’s name and contact information. Its text in sections related to the author’s scientific work ought to be written in the third version singular. There cannot be mentioned acknowledgments and any references to funding sources. Publications, studies and articles of the author(s) should be cited in text after this manner: ANONYMOUS, the publication year (e.g. ANONYMOUS 1995). Any other details must be omitted in this citation. Eventually, the electronic version of the proposed article manuscript for reviewers ought to be only named after its title or the first five words of its title. Then properties of this electronic document should be anonymized as well.

III. References and in-text citations

For the references of both article manuscript versions mentioned above an author(s) standardly uses parenthetical references in the text, footnotes and in appendices which are followed by the list of references at the end of the text. The references and intext citations should be written in Latin alphabet. If publication in Cyrillic and Greek alphabet, or in other writing system, is cited, the name(s) of an author(s) should be transliterated into English in a parenthetical reference (or first word or first two words from the title of publication with no author translated into English). In the list of references the English translation of cited publication (except for the original version of the title) should be also given along with the transliteration of an author’s/authors’ name/names. Examples are show in the chapter (no. VII) called Sample Citations and Other Rules that you can find below.

IV. Appendices

An article may also include appendices. Before appendices should be stated Slovak and English title “Prílohy/Appendix”. These can be illustrations (pictures and tables) as well as text tables. Appendices must not be included in article manuscripts, but they need to be attached separately. Appendices must contain notes placed after the references in an article manuscript. These notes should be in Slovak as well in English. For illustrations in the text, use an abbreviation “fig.” Plates, units with more than one illustration, follow the main body of the text, whose last part is the author’s affiliation, which is placed after the references. The aforementioned plates have got the “pl.” abbreviation. Text tables are word-numeral compositions of data arranged in lines and columns. With these, there is no abbreviation, just the term “table”. Appendices should be referred in the main text in parentheses.

V. Illustrations

Illustrations provided should be of sufficient quality and standard file format:

1. black and white drawings should be sent as 1-bit black and white images of 300 dpi resolution size in .tif file format;
2. drawings, pictures and photographs in grey scale should be sent as 8-bit grey scale images of 300 dpi in .jpg file format;
3. drawings, pictures and photographs in colour should be sent at least as 24-bit RGB colour scale pictures of 300 dpi in .jpg file format.

VI. Time range in the text

A time range in the text, e.g. years of a ruler´s reign, should be separated by a dash with two gaps, e.g. “Pope Adrian I (772 – 795)”.

Reference to an archive source should be as specific as possible in terms of the localisation (the name of the archive, the title of the collection) and further details (the box, the file, the number, etc.).

The reference to the periodical press is similar to the reference to an article in a journal, but the difference is that the exact publication date should be stated there.

11. Reference to primary sources

References to the primary sources are more or less similar to the references to monographs and non-periodical proceedings. The reference has to include the name of an author in the most commonly used form and the title of the work in the original language (works in other languages than Latin should be cited also in Latin if the Latin version is common). The data should be followed by the reference to a monograph, proceedings, or collection of primary sources in which the primary source, its translation or the primary source with its translation was published. Apart from the name of an author and title (in the case of long titles they should be shortened to two or three words) of the work in-text citation should include a number of the book, chapter and paragraph, if these are stated. If it is a problem to state an author of a primary source, or its title (mainly in the case of charters), or if such information is irrelevant, you should cite just a title or abbreviation of collection of primary sources, in which a primary source was published, in the text along with a publication year and pages. Principles of the translation and transliteration of references in non-Roman alphabets (it is explained below – in subchapter 13) should be maintained in regard to primary sources as well.

12. Reference to publication when there is no given author

In an in-text citation the shortened title of the publication with no author should be included in place of an author. Then the first word or first two words from the title of publication with no author (or the abbreviation of the publication’s title) should be stated at the beginning of a reference entry in the list of References.

All the aforementioned kinds of publication can belong to this category, but the difference is that they are accessible on the Internet. Apart from publications websites belong to Internet sources too. 16. Multiple in-text citations and a page range

In case of more than one in-text parenthetical citation, citations should be separated by a semicolon [e.g. (Smith 1989, 58; Colus 1998, 16)]. If there are more than one page or two consecutive pages in a perenthetical reference, they should be divided by a hyphen [e.g. (Smith 1989, 77-78)], or in the case of two consecutive pages the first one should be followed by the letter “f” [e.g. (Smith 1989, 77f)]. When an author intends to cite after the particular page also an undetermined number of pages, he will attach to the aforementioned page two “f” letters [e.g. (Smith 1989, 77ff)].

17. Place of issue, publication date, and page range in references

If the place of issue is not mentioned in a reference, the “s. l.” (sine loco) abbreviation should be used. In case of two or more places they are separated by a dash with two gaps (e.g. London – New York). If no publication date is available, the “s. a.” (sine anno) abbreviation should be used, and if there are not pages in the source, the “s. p.” (sine pagina) abbreviation should be used.

I. Všeobecné pokyny

Článok určený na publikovanie (celkovo od 18 000 do 36 000 znakov s medzerami) je potrebné dodať iba v dokumente typu .rtf. spolu s .pdf verziou rovnakého súboru. Text musí obsahovať aj názov, prípadne podnázov (ak nie sú text a názov v angličtine, musia byť v tomto jazyku dodané tiež), abstrakt  v angličtine [najmenej 1 000 znakov s medzerami, plus meno (mená) autora (autorov) a titulu článku], ako aj kľúčové slová v anglickom jazyku (medzi 5 a 10 slovami). Rukopisy článkov musia byť dodané v type písma Palatino Linotype (unikódové písmo) veľkosti 12, riadkovanie 1,5, formát stránky A4 s okrajmi 2,5 cm z každej strany.
 
II. Dve verzie rukopisu článku

Autor (autori) musí poslať dve verzie rukopisu článku. Jedna verzia je určená pre editorov a druhá pre recenzentov. Vo verzii pre editorov nesmie chýbať meno autora (autorov) pod titulom (a podtitulom) rukopisu článku.Potom treba pridať za záverečný zoznam literatúry kontaktné informácie o autorovi (autoroch) v anglickom jazyku. Vyššie uvedené kontaktné informácie musia obsahovať meno a priezvisko autora (autorov) s titulmi, inštitúciu, kde pôsobí, a e-mailovú adresu. Taktiež odporúčame autorovi (autorom) dodať nasledovné trvalé digitálne identifikačné čísla bádateľa: ORCID ID, WOS Researcher ID a SCOPUS Author ID. Verzia rukopisu článku pre recenzentov nesmie obsahovať meno autora (autorov) ani jeho kontaktné informácie. Text v častiach týkajúcich sa autorovej vedeckej práce musí byť napísaný v tretej osobe jednotného čísla. Poďakovania v článku či zmienky o zdrojoch financovania musia tiež v tejto verzii absentovať. Publikácie, štúdie a články autora (autorov) treba citovať v texte nasledovným spôsobom: ANONYM, rok vydania (napr. ANONYM 1995). Žiadne ďalšie údaje táto citácia obsahovať nemôže. Nakoniec treba elektronickú verziu navrhovaného rukopisu článku pre recenzentov pomenovať iba podľa jeho názvu, respektíve podľa prvých piatich slov jeho názvu. Potom treba tiež vymazať údaje týkajúce sa autora (autorov) z vlastností elektronickej verzie tohto rukopisu článku.

III. Zoznam literatúry a citácie v texte

Citácie sa v oboch vyššie spomenutých verziách rukopisu článku musia uviesť vo forme zátvoriek nachádzajúcich sa v texte, poznámkach i v prílohách, na čo nadväzuje záverečný zoznam literatúry (References) na konci textu. Citácie v texte i v zozname použitej literatúry musia byť vytvárané v latinke. Ak sa cituje publikácia napísaná v azbuke, gréckej alfabete či v inom písmovom systéme, v textovej citácii sa musí uviesť meno autora/autorov  transliterované do angličtiny (poprípade prvé slovo či dve slová názvu diela preložené do angličtiny, ak nie je uvedený autor). V záverečnom zozname literatúry treba uviesť popri originálnej verzii titulu citovanej publikácie i jej preklad do angličtiny s transliteráciou mena autora/autorov do angličtiny. Príklady si treba pozrieť v kapitole (č. VII) Ukážky správneho citovania a ostatné pravidlá, ktorá sa nachádza nižšie.

IV. Prílohy
Článok môže obsahovať i prílohy. Pred prílohami sa v texte musí nachádzať slovensko-anglické pomenovanie „Prílohy/Appendix“. Prílohy sú ilustrácie (obrázky a tabuľky) a textové tabely. Prílohy nemôžu byť zakomponované do rukopisov článkov, ale autor ich musí dodať samostatne. Autor (autori) článku k nim musí pridať textový popis, ktorý pre potreby redakcie včlení za záverečný zoznam literatúry svojho rukopisu článku. Tento popis musí byť v slovenčine i angličtine. Obrázky, ktoré sú ilustráciami v texte, majú skratku „obr.“. Tabuľky sú zase ilustráciami, resp. celkami s viacerými ilustráciami, ktoré sú umiestnené za hlavným textom, ktorého poslednou časťou je záverečný zoznam literatúry nasledovaný len kontaktnými informáciami o autorovi (autoroch). Vyššie spomenuté tabuľky majú skratku „tab.“. Textové tabely sú slovno-číselné zostavy údajov usporiadaných do riadkov a stĺpcov, pri ktorých sa skratka nepoužíva a uvádza sa iba termín „tabela“. Prílohy sa musia citovať v texte v zátvorkách.

V. Ilustrácie

Ilustrácie musí autor dodať v stanovenej kvalite a formáte:

1. čiernobiele kresby musí autor dodať ako čiernobiele jednobitové obrázky s rozlíšením 300 dpi a formáte .tif;
2. kresby, obrázky a fotografie v šedej škále je potrebné dodať ich ako osembitové obrázky v šedej škále s rozlíšením 300 dpi a formáte .jpg;
3. farebné kresby, obrázky a fotografie musí autor dodať najmenej ako dvadsaťštyribitové obrázky vo farebnom modeli RGB s rozlíšením 300 dpi a formáte .jpg.

VI. Časové rozpätie v texte

Časové rozpätie v texte, ako napr. roky panovania vládcov, treba oddeliť pomlčkou, napr. „pápež Hadrián I. (772 – 795)“.

9. Odkaz na archívny prameň

Citovanie archívnych prameňov rešpektuje konkrétny dokument a jeho uloženie. Je potrebné dbať na to, aby bola v zozname literatúry uvedená čo najpodrobnejšia lokalizácia (názov archívu, názov archívneho fondu) a ďalšie podrobnejšie údaje o mieste uloženia (škatuľa, fascikel, číslo a pod.).

10. Odkaz na periodickú tlač

Citácia na periodickú tlač je podobná citácii článku v časopise, len s tým rozdielom, že tu uvádzame i presný dátum vydania periodickej tlače.

11. Odkaz na primárne pramene

Pri citácii primárnych prameňov sa postupuje s menšou obmenou v podstate rovnako, ako v prípade monografií a neperiodických zborníkov. V zozname literatúry uvádzame aj meno autora (ak existuje) v jeho najčastejšie používanej forme a názov diela v origináli (diela v inom než latinskom jazyku sa môžu uvádzať aj v latinčine, ak je takýto preklad zaužívaný). Za týmito údajmi sa uvádza citovanie monografie, zborníka alebo pramennej edície, v ktorej bol primárny prameň, poprípade jeho preklad či prameň spolu s prekladom vydaný. Popri mene autora a názve diela (skráteného pri dlhých názvoch na dve až tri slová) treba v citácii v texte uviesť aj číslo knihy, kapitoly a paragrafu, ak je v primárnom prameni vyznačený. Ak je problematické uviesť autora primárneho prameňa či jeho názov (najmä v prípade listín), poprípade ak je táto informácia irelevantná, cituje sa v texte iba názov alebo skratka pramennej edície (v ktorej bol primárny prameň vydaný) spolu s rokom vydania a stranami. Pri primárnych prameňoch je tiež potrebné zachovávať zásady prekladu a transliterácie diel neuvádzaných v latinke (vysvetlené nižšie - v podkapitole č. 13).

12. Odkaz na publikáciu bez udaného autora

V textovej citácii musí skrátený titul publikácie bez uvedeného autora vymeniť meno autora. Potom prvé slovo, prvé dve slová z titulu alebo skratka spomenutej publikácie musia byť uvedené na začiatku záznamu konkrétnej citácie v zozname použitej literatúry.

14. Odkaz na internetový zdroj

Do tejto kategórie môžu patriť všetky vyššie uvedené druhy publikácií, no s tým rozdielom, že sa nachádzajú na internete. K internetovým zdrojom však náležia okrem publikácií aj samotné internetové stránky. Za citáciou podľa vyššie uvedených pravidiel treba v zozname literatúry uviesť aj internetovú adresu.

15. Dve alebo viaceré publikácie od toho istého autora vydané v ten istý rok

Dve alebo viaceré publikácie napísané tým istým autorom a v ten istý rok sa musia odlíšiť v zozname literatúry i v citáciách v texte pridaním písmena „a“, „b“, „c“ atď. Potom treba citácie v zozname literatúry zoraďovať abecedne podľa ich názvu.

16. Viaceré citácie v texte a rozsah strán

Viaceré citácie v jednej zátvorke sa oddeľujú bodkočiarkou [napr. (Smith 1989, 58; Colus 1998, 16)]. Ak je citovaná v zátvorke viac než jedna strana či dve po sebe nasledujúce strany, oddeľujú sa spojovníkom [napr. (Smith 1989, 77-78)], alebo v prípade dvoch po sebe nasledujúcich strán sa za prvú z nich po medzere pripojí písmeno „n“ s bodkou [napr. (Smith 1989, 77 n.)]. V prípade, že autor chce citovať po konkrétnej strane i ďalšie nasledujúce strany, pripojí po uvedenej strane dve písmená „n“ s nasledujúcou bodkou [napr. (Smith 1989, 77 nn.)]. 

17. Miesto, rok vydania a rozsah strán článku

Ak nie je uvedené miesto vydania v zozname literatúry (References), použije sa skratka „s. l.“ (sine loco). V prípade, že sú uvedené dve alebo viac miest vydania, oddeľujú sa tieto pomlčkou (napr. London – New York). V prípade, že nie je uvedený rok vydania, použije sa skratka „s. a.“ (sine anno). Ak nie je citovaný zdroj označený stranami, treba použiť skratku „s. p.“ (sine pagina).
