Abstract: Nobody dealing with Byzantine philosophy can avoid several vital questions:
Is it even possible to talk about philosophy in the Byzantine Empire, or, was there any original
Byzantine philosophy?
Since when is it possible to talk about Byzantine philosophy? That leads to question of origin
and periodization of the Byzantine Empire.
The question of continuity and discontinuity of Byzantine philosophy.
The question of independence of Byzantine philosophy.
What is Byzantine philosophy?
The question of periodization of Byzantine philosophy.
The article briefly examines the enumerated questions and shows their possible answers,
providing various approaches to Byzantine philosophy.
